"It is a fundamental human need to avoid being hurt and to avoid seeing others hurt."

Experience Becomes Innovation
Drawing on their extensive experience in quality and performance improvement for textile mills in the Southeast, Bill and his sons developed a patented performance improvement system called SmartCard®. Rooted in behavioral science research, SmartCard® uses positive reinforcement to drive and sustain employee performance. The system is as practical as it is effective, offering a proven approach to motivating teams and improving workplace outcomes.

Our History
1980s Roots of Recognition

Our early safety incentive programs focused on raising awareness, promoting compliance, and celebrating the small, everyday actions that kept people safe. We helped managers become mentors, guiding their teams to embrace OSHA regulations and build safer work environments. From pocket mirrors to branded keychains, we introduced safety-themed giveaways and coordinated company-wide awards—laying the groundwork for creating a modern safety culture.
1990s Safety Culture Takes Shape
Our safety incentive programs became more structured, with a growing emphasis on individual accountability. Behavior-based safety (BBS) began gaining widespread traction across industries. We launched our first incentive catalog, giving employees the ability to choose their rewards. Embracing emerging technologies, we introduced digital innovations like IVR systems for engagement— ushering in a new era of interactive and measurable recognition.

2000s Science Meets Strategy

We took a closer look at the psychology behind motivation. By integrating behavioral science into our launch processes, we gave managers the tools to use positive reinforcement to shape safer habits. Our approach became more strategic—helping leaders create environments where safety was reinforced through consistent, meaningful feedback. We also launched our robust online platform for delivering safety reminders, rewarding safe behavior, and metrics for tracking engagement.
2010s - Now
